Where our restaurant listings come from

SpotPick’s prototype database covers Canberra and its surrounds. It is derived from Overture Maps Foundation Places, release 2026-10-21.0, accessed 5 November 2026.

The source providers represented in this extract are Meta, Microsoft, Uberall, AllThePlaces and Overture. Each listing retains its source ID, license, source taxonomy and classification evidence.

What has been checked

Records are checked against a shared schema, restricted to the prototype region, filtered by source confidence, and deduplicated by matching names at nearby coordinates. A venue has at most three cuisine or restaurant-type categories. Some categories come directly from source taxonomy; others were reviewed with Luna using the venue name or public website evidence. Unresolved cuisines remain general restaurants.

Website checks record whether a public page responded when checked. A working website does not prove a restaurant is still trading; an unavailable website does not prove closure. We do not claim real-time opening hours, dietary guarantees, ratings or verified menus. Distances are straight-line estimates from source coordinates.

Listings can be outdated, incomplete, duplicated or incorrectly located. Please check the venue before travelling. The downloadable JSON includes the evidence and check dates so corrections can be reviewed.

Restaurant enrichment

Selected listings have original short descriptions and named menu examples based on public venue pages, reviewed with Luna. These are not dish popularity rankings or guarantees of current availability. Each fact retains its source and observation date in the downloadable database. Published hours and booking links are operating evidence, not independent confirmation that a business is currently trading. Explicit closures are retained in the database for audit but excluded from recommendations; contradictory evidence remains uncertain.

Venue photographs

Eight venue-specific photographs sourced from Wikimedia Commons carry author, file-page source, photo date evidence and CC BY-SA 4.0 licence information in each restaurant record. Expanded details show the photograph credit and source link. Images are cropped to fit the display; any adaptation is provided under the same licence. Licence text. Photo dates can predate our review and do not establish current trading status. References awaiting permission are never displayed as venue photography.

Category photography and artwork

Category images illustrate cuisines and dining styles, not individual listed restaurants. Photo titles, authors, sources and licences are supplied for all 24 category images. Photos use cover cropping in the interface. The SpotPick plate-and-forks logo and shared-table home illustration were created with AI image generation for this app.
